Ajeti signs a four year deal with Celtic
Despite a late £5.5 million bid from Brentford for the West Ham striker, Ajeti has signed for Celtic in a deal worth £5 million.
Celtic have completed the signing of Albian Ajeti from West Ham United for a fee worth £5 million. The striker becomes the second summer signing for manager Neil Lennon following the capture of AEK Athens keeper Vasilis Barkas for £4.5 million.
The 23-year-old Swiss international joins the club following the departure of Bayo to Toulouse on a season long loan deal, with an option to buy next summer.
There had been talk of a similar deal for Ajeti, but Celtic moved to make the deal permanent and the former Basel striker will now look to put his failed stint at West Ham United behind him to get his career back on track.
Former Celt David Moyes sanctioned Ajeti’s move north after just nine Premier League appearances, but the striker - as well as everyone at Celtic - will be hoping that he finds the form that sealed his £8 million transfer to the London club last summer, scoring 43 goals in 96 appearances for the Swiss side.
Despite weeks of speculation whether he would sign or not, that the player was stalling on the deal - as per the numerous articles in the SMSM - it is now being reported by West Ham bloggers that the deal was held up not by the player himself, but by the Premier League club themselves, as they needed cash upfront for late payments on previous transfers.
Meanwhile, Celtic are reportedly still chasing the signature of Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney and have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton defender [and self-confessed Celtic fan] Shane Duffy - who would be a superb signing for the Hoops and bring much needed steel in the heart of our defence.
